At my first full-time job all employees were required to carry a pocket knife or box-cutter in case customers wanted something that was still in the box. At that point, I felt that I needed something more “trendy” than a box cutter.

I bought my first true Swiss Army knife. I had had others pocket knives before, but they were all imitations, not true Swiss Army Knives. It was a simple two blade Victorinox, but it served its purpose.

Then, I started looking at a Victorinox catalog and I saw the Electrician. Every once in a while I would use the small blade in my original Victorinox, but it just didn’t seem to be as useful as it could be. The Electrician changed my mind. The smaller blade is excellent. I have found that it stays sharper than the main blade and when I am working in tight environments, it it much more stable than other model’s small blades.

Everytime I pull out my knife people look at it and ask if it is a Swiss Army because they have never seen one with an all metallic exterior. I hand it over with pride (while keeping an eye on them so they won’t get hurt or steal it!).

Actually, my current Electrician knife is the second I buy. I gave the first one away to some road-side mechanics who helped my father, my wife, and me get my dad’s car working after it broke down on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere in Mexico. They wouldn’t take any money for their work, but they accepted my knife when I offered it to them for their service.

If you need a nice slim knife (without the infamous corkscrew), then this is the knife for you.

I don’t leave home without it (well, except when I go on a plane, and then I pack it in my suitcase).
